About Us
UbiquiMed is a non-profit organization which was created to connect medical students interested in global health with researchers around the world. The majority of published literature in the medical field originates in high-income countries (HICs). However, low-and-middle income countries (LMICs) account for 85% of the world's population, 92% of the global disease burden, but receive only 10% of the global funding for health research. By connecting medical students in HICs with researchers around the world, our hope is to bridge this gap. Most medical students in HICs are given provided institutional resources such as statisticians, librarians, and access to major databases and online journals. These resources can be used to assist with projects worldwide to facilitate the production of quality research that can help advance medical care across the world.
Additionally, since the COVID-19 pandemic, opportunities for medical students interested in global health have remained limited due to travel restrictions. One of our aims is to provide interested medical students with the connections and and opportunities to foster their development into future global health leaders. At UbiquiMed, we strive to ensure that medical advancements benefit all populations, fostering collaboration and innovation for a more just global health system.
